SBDC Client Awarded Grant

AliciaLeekeThe South Carolina Arts Commission awarded Alicia Leeke with a prestigious 2017 Artists Ventures Initiative Grant (AVI) in July.

The AVI Grant is a highly competitive process and is presented to professional-caliber artists working in South Carolina. The grant enables arts-based business owners the opportunity to enhance their overall career and become sustainable long term.

Annually, the South Carolina Arts Commission awards participants $5,000 in which the artist provides matching funds for their creative entrepreneurial endeavors. The AVI Grant is designed to support artists who have the potential to significantly impact their professional careers and who are at a critical juncture in their career.

Leeke is utilizing the grant to redesign her website for e-commerce and to launch a series of new art classes targeted to other artists, inventors and entrepreneurs.

“The grant I wrote will not only allow me to grow my business, but will also help me consult with other artists to grow their businesses as well through a series of workshops I will be teaching,” Leeke stated.

You may purchase her work direct by calling 803-429-5456 or at Mitchell Hill in Charleston, SC, Portfolio Art Gallery in Columbia and Pinckney Simons in Beaufort, SC.

The Small Business Development Center in Columbia is happy to have assisted Alicia Leeke over several weeks of work with client coaching through the requirements of this grant application.  While the SBDC doesn’t generally seek out grant funding for clients, nor do we write grant packages, our services in financial planning, marketing and business operations can help clients better position their company to apply for grants they may have located.
