SC SBDC Offers Disaster Assistance to Businesses Impacted by Recent Storm

COLUMBIA, SC–The South Carolina Small Business Development Centers (SC SBDC), the state’s leading resource for small and midsize businesses, is collaborating with federal and state agencies to provide recovery assistance to businesses impacted by Hurricane Florence.

“Many business owners are facing extreme challenges. In addition to personal losses, they are dealing with varying degrees of physical damage and economic injury to their businesses,” said SC SBDC State Director Michele Abraham.  “The SC SBDC is working closely with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD), the SBA and FEMA to help affected businesses minimize losses and increase survivability.”

BUSINESS RECOVERY COUNSELING

The SC SBDC, which operates twenty-one area centers located throughout the state’s 46 counties, has a long history of helping small businesses navigate the disaster recovery process.  Professional consultants are available at no cost to help business owners:

  • Assess the financial impact on their business
  • Develop recovery strategies to re-establish their operation and plan for their future
  • Reconstruct damaged or destroyed financial statements and records
  • Evaluate options with creditors
  • Prepare bridge loan and SBA disaster loan applications
  • Identify government contracts and procurement opportunities related to the disaster
